guilty

A supermarket stacked full of food which tumbles from the shelves and into my trolley.

A catered afternoon tea with an abundance of sandwiches we can never hope to eat.

A pub meal so big I wearily push the still full plate away.

A worldwide food crisis in which people are starving because there isn't enough food and what there is they cannot afford.

I think we have stuffed up.

We may face this dichotomy more in months to come. I appreciate you already wrestling with it, Cecily. The perils of living at such an interesting time!

I believe we should not feel guilty for being, we should extend ourselves to best of our ability. You do that in so many ways already Cecily.

Hey, Cecily, you're a winner! I will greatly enjoy sending you your prizes, and I don't think the process will take food away from anyone. :o)

Hi Cec,
I don't think you should beat yourself up about this. How I see it you are concious of this issue and are helping out others who are less fortunate. It's the people who just don't care that I get crabby with.

Cecily, if everyone felt and did as you, the world would have far fewer problems. All those individual efforts folks make really do add up:)

The kids and I went out to lunch last week and asked for our leftovers to be boxed up so we could take them home and eat them later. The waitress said quietly, under her breath and up close to my ear, "I'm glad you are taking these home. We throw out terribly huge amounts of food every day. It's obscene."

Why do restaurants serve such huge amounts of food? I'd rather pay less for less food that be served an amount that could feed my whole family and is meant for only me.

Don't feel guilty, Cecily. As other comments here explain, you do more than your part in trying to alleviate the situation and to educate others about it.

Good post.

Thanks guys for your kind thoughts...

Feelings are feelings and I still feel guilty. Not so guilty I'm fasting in solidarity, but there is an injustice here and I am a beneficiary while others suffer. By living where I live I contribute to their pain just because I am part of the system which perpetuates it. It's wrong. I don't like it. I will fight it. But for now I want to sit with the feelings because they are what motivates me to do something about the wrong in our world.
